These are images of the piece i am currently working on, i purchased a polystyrene head from ebay and since then we’ve been inseparable, i have named her wiggles. The piece is based on the basic oragami techniques i developed in the early stages of the project. However in order to link back to the idea of textile recycling and sustainability, or lack of in the fashion industry, i decided to attempt these folding techniques with material. Of course to begin with this wasn’t too successful, material is very temperamental, but with a bit of manipulation i got the eventually. Starching the material helped significantly, i achieved this simply by mixing flour and water into a paste and covering the material in it, and then leaving it to dry. It gives the material a crisp texture that can then be ironed, the edges are sharp and more sturdy.
