For the light night part of the visual exploration brief i chose to explore architecture in Leeds. Although light night provided light visuals around the main part of the city center- Millenium Square and the areas surrounding the Town Hall- we decided to explore other parts of the city and worked mainly around the Kirkgate Market area which is further out. It was obvious on the night that this area was barely effected by the goings on of light night, however the architecture was almost more interesting than that of light night. I have been to this area during the day and found that the building were intricate, however there are areas that are more worn down and unused. At night this area seemed to have even more character, features that during the day you would walk past were more obvious and seemed more interesting. For example the black and white image below shows a sign that should have read ‘Las Vegas’ but now reads ‘L V AS’. I think the appeal for me personally was that this area seemed forgotten by light night, but the lack of conventional beauty here seems to make it more intriguing and exciting.
